Hey Friends!

Have you ever heard of Candida albicans?

If not, you’re in the right spot!

Candida albicans is a parasitic yeast-like fungus that lives in the intestinal tract but can spread to other mucous membranes like. the genital tract, mouth, throat, skin and nails. Candida is commonly found in the digestive tract, but only poses an issue when they begin to outweigh the good guys (those beneficial microbes).

Factors that can contribute to Candida overgrowth

  • Antibiotic use

  • A diet high in sugar and refined carbs

  • Immune system weaknesses

  • Birth Control Pill

  • High Stress Levels

  • Poor Digestion

  • Poor Bowel Management

  • High Alcohol Intake

5 Signs of Candida Overgrowth

  1. Brain Fog / Forgetfulness /Neurological Problems

This sign of Candida overgrowth is attributed to the toxins produced by these pesky fungi. These toxins are absorbed into the blood stream and carried throughout the body, contributing to these neurological symptoms.

One of the toxins produced by candida is acetaldehyde, which poisons the nervous system, joints and muscles. Acetaldehyde can affect metabolic, endocrine and immune system function, and can stimulate histamine release, making allergy and inflammation worse.

  2. Fatigue

This is one of the more common symptoms of Candida overgrowth. Nutritional deficiencies and a weakened immune system associated with candida overgrowth can contribute to feelings of fatigue

  3. Recurrent Vaginal Infections

Candida is found in the vaginal tract of most women, so an overgrowth can lead to candidiasis of the vagina, also known as a yeast infection.

  4. Cravings for Sugar, Bread and/or Alcohol

Candida THRIVES on undigested carbs and sugar, and subsequently signals the body to CRAVE these substances. The more of these types of foods you eat, the more you’re allowing candida to thrive, creating a vicious circle as they continue to signal cravings for carbs and sweets.

  5. Abdominal Gas & Bloating

Having small amounts of candida in your gut is normal, but when it starts to dominate over the good bacteria in our system we start to have issues. We NEED that good bacteria for proper digestion, and without them you may experience constipation, diarrhea, bloating, indigestion, gas and cramps.
